Mumbai Districts AIDS Control Society (MDACS), an autonomous body registered under Charitable Trust Act, was established on 27th July 1998 by Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) for control & prevention of HIV/AIDS in Mumbai. MDACS plays a role to catalyse, strengthen and orchestrate the expertise and resources of the various organisations working in this field under a single banner, with one overarching goal, i.e. HIV/AIDS control. This has been possible by working together through strategic alliances with the General Health Sector, NGOs, CBOs, People Living with HIV/AIDS, Corporate Houses and Media, etc.

Mumbai Districts AIDS Control Society is the Mumbai arm of the National AIDS Control Organisation centrally located at Delhi. The National AIDS Control Organization (acronym 1NACO1) is a body that was formulated by the Government of India to combat the dilemma of the HIV & AIDS epidemic in our country. National AIDS Control Organisation is a division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare that provides leadership to HIV/AIDS control programme in India through 35 HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Societies in states to control the epidemic locally.
