Creating
conducive environment for behavioral change is the main thrust
of the IEC component of MDACS. With this objective it has
evolved different strategies and developed different types of
communication material. These communication efforts differed
from groups to groups and attempts are made to make target
specific communication.
It
has used interpersonal communication media like print material
and folk media and also extensively used mass media like cable
TV and newspapers.
IEC
material like booklets, pamphlets, posters in English, Hindi and
Marathi are designed and printed for distribution to the general
public and to specific groups like youth, truck drivers,
Commercial Sex Workers etc.
Exhibition
sets have been prepared which are given free of cost to
different social organizations for exhibition on request.
Messages
about AIDS awareness are being given on different TV and local
cable Channels, Doordarshan as well as on All India Radio and on
FM Radio Channels.
Advertisements
are given in local newspapers on different occasions like
World’s AIDS Day, Blood Donation Day, Family Health Awareness
Campaign etc.
The
World AIDS Day is observed on 1st December every year
and during that week different programmes are arranged in
different localities of the city in collaboration with NGOs.
Family Health Awareness Campaign is observes for a fortnight
every year during the period as decided by NACO for addressing
issue of sexually transmitted infections.

IEC Mobile Van is operated through NGO.
AIDS
help line for counselling and information is being run with the
help of NGO.
Groups performing Street plays have been engaged by MDACS
who are asked to perform on demand from social
organizations .
Sexually Health Information Art Gallery –
to impart the scientific knowledge on human anatomy, physiology
and sexuality through models, photographs etc. Sexual Health
Information Gallery has been created at 1st floor
Bellasis Road, Kamathipura at STD Clinic. The gallery is being
run by MDACS and two Community Development Officers of Public
Health Department have been posted for giving information about
the Gallery and HIV/AIDS to the visitors.
